    Connective tissue disorders such as Marfan syndrome and Ehlers-Danlos as well as other syndromes that lead to cystic medial necrosis of the proximal aorta predispose patients to aortic dissection. Other syndromes include: Turner, Noonan, homocystinuria, osteogenesis imperfecta, and Loeys-Dietz syndrome. Aortic dissections classically present as acute onset of severe chest or back pain, often described as “ripping” or “tearing” pain. Patients may have a pulse deficit and/or > 20 mm Hg variation in SBP between arms.
