    B) Infected men are asymptomatic in > 75% of cases
Trichomoniasis is almost always sexually transmitted; while organisms have been found on fomites, fomite transmission has not been demonstrated. Women may be asymptomatic, or may have a purulent malodorous vaginal discharge, itching, dysuria/dyspareunia, postcoital bleeding; symptoms may worsen with menses. Over 75% of infected men are asymptomatic, but men may have dysuria or pruritis. Trichomoniasis in pregnant women is associated with adverse outcomes such as PROM and premature birth. Women commonly spread infection to male sexual partners (70%), but men do not commonly spread infection to their sexual partners. Treatment is with metronidazole or tinidazole. Infected patients should be tested for other STDs as well (e.g. gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, syphilis).
