    Indirect, or offline, medical control involves developing policies and protocols, educating pre-hospital providers, and pre-hospital providers administering care via standing orders or protocols without needing to consult with base physicians (or specially trained nurses). Direct, or online, medical control involves a base physician (or specially trained nurse) providing real-time medical direction and orders, even if that direction is relayed through a trainee.
