D) Nebulized albuterol
The bronchi may be irritated by cold or water, leading to bronchospasm. Nebulized albuterol may be helpful in this case. There is no evidence to support use of corticosteroids or prophylactic antibiotics. Barbiturates were thought at one time to decrease mortality and neurologic morbidity, but this indication has not been supported by subsequent research. There are a few small studies showing benefit of surfactant, but additional research is needed.
