E) Lower than usual tidal volumes, as a lung protection strategy
Ventilating patients with ARDS generally calls for a lower goal O2 sat (permissive hypoxia), lower tidal volumes (3-6 mL/kg), and average to higher PEEPs (starting at 5-8 cm H2O but titrating up as needed / tolerated). FiO2 should be started at 100% and weaned down as able. Respiratory rate appropriate for age should be used.
