C) Sacral dimple 3mm diameter, 1.5 cm from the anus
Infants with a single sacral lesion of hypertrichosis, mass, hemangioma, cutis aplasia, or dimple either 5mm or more in size, or > 2.5cm from the anus, should have an MRI to rule out occult closed spinal dysraphism. Patients with 2 or more sacral findings (including low-risk dimples) should also undergo MRI, as should those with signs or symptoms of tethered cord syndrome (lower extremity weakness, areflexia, and pain, incontinence / bladder dysfunction).
