D. Because the ovary has two sources of blood supply, flow may be present even in a torsed ovary. Other ultrasound signs suggestive of torsion include: enlarged or edematous ovary, peripheral displacement of follicles (string-of-pearls sign), ovary at the midline of the abdomen, whirlpool sign of twisted vascular pedicle, free fluid in the pelvis.
