Sutures of lacerations of the face should be removed in 3-5 days to decrease tissue reaction and scarring, due to the importance of cosmesis of the face and the lack of tension typically on the wounds. Some practitioners do use absorbable sutures on young children’s facial lacerations to avoid the secondary trauma of suture removal.
