D) BB poisoning may cause hypoglycemia whereas CCB poisoning may cause hyperglycemia
The clinical manifestations and treatments for BB and CCB poisoning/overdose overlap greatly. Both may cause bradycardia, hypotension, shock, altered mental status, and sometimes nausea & vomiting, but BB may cause hypoglycemia while CCB may cause hyperglycemia. Both result in symptoms within a few hours (up to 6) for immediate-release formulations, and within 24 hours for extended-release formulations. Treatment for both may include: fluid resuscitation, pressors (epinephrine or norepinephrine), glucagon, IV calcium, insulin + glucose (hyperinsulinemic euglycemia HIE therapy), and intralipid.
