Many parents believe that fever can be attributed to teething. The potential scientific mechanism would be a release of cytokines and other inflammatory mediators during teething. However, a meta-analysis of symptoms during tooth eruption found that while body temperature may rise slightly, it does not rise to the level of fever as defined by temperature 38 C or higher https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26908659/ . Another meta-analysis found an association between teething and fever only for rectal temperatures https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29104392/ although study quality and sample sizes were low.
