C) You should aim to perform 100-120 chest compressions per minute
If you witness a sudden collapse of a child, then activate EMS and look for an AED. However, if you come upon an unwitnessed child in arrest, initiate CPR for 2 minutes before activating EMS. If there are 2 rescuers for a pediatric patient, they should use a 15:2 ratio. The ratio is 30:2 for all other scenarios (solo rescuer pediatric patient, and 1 or 2 rescuers adult patients). Goal rate is 100-120 per minute. You should compress the chest at least 1/3 the AP diameter, about 1.5 inches (4 cm) for infants and 2 inches (5 cm) for children 1yo to puberty. AED’s can be used in all ages; pediatric pads should be used in children up to 8yo, 25 kg if available.
