B) Ceftriaxone 500mg IM
In December 2020, due to increasing resistance of N. gonorrhoeae the recommended first-line antibiotic therapy for uncomplicated genitourinary gonorrhea was changed from ceftriaxone 250mg IM to ceftriaxone 500mg IM (for patients weighing > 150kg or 300 lbs, 1gm ceftriaxone IM). Alternatives for those unable to receive ceftriaxone include: gentamicin 240mg IM + azithromycin 2gm PO, or cefixime 800mg PO. Doxycycline is used to treat uncomplicated genitourinary chlamydial infection.
