Some safety tips to remind parents and caretakers of:

1) Remember that helmets are not just for biking – they should be worn for skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and ice hockey

2) Regarding holiday décor: be sure trees have plenty of water, keep candles far from anything that can catch fire, check that your smoke detector is functioning, place breakable ornaments and those with sharp parts high up out of reach

3) Winter heaters may pose a risk for carbon monoxide exposure: have a functioning detector and make sure there’s also one in your winter vacation lodging

4) Beware of toys with button batteries – close the battery compartments tightly

5) When throwing adult parties in a household with early-rising toddlers and young children, dispose of any alcohol remaining in glasses and chokeable finger foods before going to bed. Also make sure visitors keep their medications tightly sealed and out of reach
