Packing abscesses is painful and patients / parents are often reluctant to re-pack. The loop technique utilizes smaller incisions and encourages continued drainage with placement of a loop (a vessel loop or piece of penrose drain are often used). A new product Quickloop (I have no financial interest in this product) provides an all-in-one solution. In a pinch, the cuff of a glove could be used as a loop.
