A) Obesity
Ingrown toenails (fancy name onychocryptosis) are very common, particularly starting in adolescence when increased foot perspiration is a risk factor. Other risk factors include obesity, cutting nails too short, in a rounded pattern, or in a V-shaped pattern, tight-fitting shoes, minor great toe trauma (stubbing the toe), increased force during ambulation / activity, hereditary predisposition, and medical conditions that cause lower extremity edema.
